Landrieu Presses DOE Official to Approve Next Autoworks' Loan GuaranteeJun 10, 2011
At a Senate Energy and Natural Resource Committee hearing today, United States Senator Landrieu again presses Department of Energy (DOE) officials to approve Next Autoworks' loan guarantee application under the Advanced Technology Vehicle Manufacturing program. Sen. Landrieu questioned Jonathan Silver, the DOE's executive director of its Loan Program Office, and probed for updates on the program's issuance of loan guarantees.

On the Senate floor, Sen. Landrieu highlighted ongoing Republican hypocrisy regarding disaster relief funding for FEMA after today's vote to table the House-passed continuing resolution. Sen. Landrieu pointed out that the House's continuing resolution includes $100 million in cuts to the Department of Energy's (DOE) Advance Technology Vehicle Manufacturing (ATVM) Program, previously supported by many Republicans in the House. The ATVM Program is critical to finance the Next Autoworks project in Monroe, La., and has the potential to create 1400 direct jobs and an additional 1800 indirect jobs in northeast Louisiana.

Charles Chaw, producer of 6 episodes "Inside China Next Powerhouse", presents the opportunities of Northeastern China. In this Part 1 of fourth episode: Changchun, this city is the provincial capital of Jilin Province, which is a traditional agriculture belt, famous for its bountiful harvests of corn. Changchun, literally means "a long period of spring." Changchun however is more famous for its automobile industry. More than any other Chinese city, Changchun's fate is closely tied to its automobile industry. Some 70% of the city's industrial output is tied to this industry. Changchun is aptly known as the "Detroit of China." First Automotive Works, or FAW Group, is the backbone of Changchun's automobile industry. It is also China's largest automobile manufacturer. Three years after it was founded with the help from the Soviet Union, in 1956. The company rolled out its first product, the truck branded as "Jiefang", or liberation. The Jiefang truck was also the first vehicle made entirely in China and proved that Chinas could make its own vehicles. Soon, FAW expanded into passenger cars, and the Hongqi, used exclusively as the sedan for the country's leaders, became the flagship model. With the prestige accorded to it, the Hongqi was the pride of FAW, and FAW, the pride of China. Under the central planning economic system, the city was designated as the key automobile production base. The Hongqi brand heralded Changchun's status as China's automobile city.

Corr Performance Tuning D15B turbo, tuned on Hondata S300. Car came to the dyno with a Crome base map and a Hondata s300 was fitted to it and tuned at 10psi and then at 14psi. plugs were changed and whole map was tuned. There are still some spots to fine tune, so the client will come back shortly for that. Next mod as per the owner will be a go-autoworks manifold and some gauges for monitoring.

A mild face-lift and a larger, more powerful engine were the most noticeable upgrades. BMW is now at work on the next-generation 2011 6 Series, but as you can see in our latest spy photos and video, the changes won't be dramatic. The size and shape of the test mule seen here look almost identical to the current 650i. The long, wide hood and short rear deck remain, although the front fascia has a slightly different shape to the grille. This prototype also sports a convertible soft top, a wise choice given the already hefty weight of the 6 Series convertible. Generally considered too big to be a true performance coupe, the next-generation 6 Series may counter its girth with more power from BMW's new twin-turbo V8. Rated at 400 horsepower and 450 pound-feet of torque in its current applications, the 4.4-liter V8 would make for a near M6-like experience in the standard 650i model. Its performance could be further enhanced by an expected weight reduction as BMW looks to reduce CO2 output in order to satisfy tougher mileage and emissions requirements. And let's face it; it can't really get any bigger or heavier than it is now. Although this prototype looks fairly well along in the development process, we don't expect to see a finished product until sometime next year.
